1820’s
This regular bi-weekly social competition is a fellowship of mostly senior golfers who meet every Monday and Thursday morning (with the exception of a few weeks over the Christmas period between mid December & early January).
Visitors and new members of all ages are ALWAYS welcome, and although the age of regular members is over 50, don’t be fooled as many of them regularly play in the weekly white tee competitions and some have single figure handicaps. Thus expect a good standard of golf within a fun and social atmosphere.
Visitors’ handicaps are adjusted as per the 1820’s handicap conversion table to correspond to the 13-hole blue tee format. Regular players will acquire their own 1820’s handicap after a month of playing, based on their results, and this is then reviewed once a month thereafter.
The competition is played over the first 13 holes of the course off the blue tees. There is an 1820’s scorecard that is re-stroked for the holes 1 to 13. Normal R&A and local club rules apply.
The competition is a 4-ball Medal Alliance where, although the winners are mentioned in dispatches, the main objective is to avoid being presented the MOOSEHEAD trophy for the team coming LAST, and a player who has the misfortune of receiving 3 consecutive MOOSEHEADS will be present with, and have his name engraved on, the MINI-MOOSE trophy.
There are no bookings and those wanting to play turn up on the morning, and the Proshop will assist from there. An important note for players is to pay and register in time for the 8:30am Draw. At the Draw each player draws a playing card that both signifies who his playing partners are and their tee off position.
After play, and with a traditional view of keeping the cost of play as low as possible, there are no bets on the game and everyone buys his own drinks until the conclusion of post game results, which is general done by 12:30pm.
